Formations pédagogiques pour professeurs de FLE
Start date: Aug 4, 2014, End date: Aug 22, 2014 PROJECT  FINISHED

The language school Cavilam in Vichy offers a language course specifically for foreign language teachers. The course “Formation pour professeurs et formateurs de FLE“ (Training for teachers and FLE instructors) is not only aimed at improving the participants' command of French but also is aimed at conveying a wide range of innovative teaching methods. Since the Austrian revised school-certificate examination (“Reifeprüfung”) demands the command of different skills, there is a need for new methods and beneficial teaching material. The course is aimed at familiarizing teachers of French with the current practices of foreign language teaching in order to improve the quality of their instruction. A further objective of the training is to intensify European integration and establish relationships with other institutions in order to compare and exchange different instruction methods on a trans-national level. The course familiarises participants with advanced practices and techniques of language instruction. Through practical examples, the training introduces new methods for the teaching of grammar (use of rhythmic and emotional memory, the role of dictation during class, etc.). In the area of communication skills, the training introduces exercises that are aimed at ameliorating different speech difficulties and improving speaking skills. A special focus is given to “playful” learning. Other courses will include French cultural studies and how to use new technology during class (whiteboard, internet, TV5, blog, …). For various reasons, participating in this training is relevant for me. I hope to gain knowledge of the newest teaching methods so as to offer my students classes with a great degree of variety and a special focus on current affairs while using authentic and innovative material. In the long run it will be my students who benefit from the skills that I stand to gain during this training. Furthermore, I will also take this opportunity to pass the newest methods on to my teacher colleagues in Austria. I know that my participation at this training will contribute to the international component of my school's instruction. Especially in the context of the International Baccalaureate that is offered by my school, it is important to be able to offer internationally trained French teachers practiced in the use of advanced teaching techniques so as to maximise the learning potential of each individual student.
