FORMACIÓN PARA UNA EDUCACIÓN BILINGUE Y DE CALIDAD
Start date: Jun 1, 2015, End date: May 31, 2016 PROJECT  FINISHED

The Rambla de Nogalte Secondary-Vocational school is the only one in Puerto Lumbreras, a town with about 12000 inhabitants, far away from big cities, with rural employment, small-medium companies, and important rate of immigrants implying varied pupils. This diversity requires an important work from teachers and also from the management team. This is something we are doing for long time through different programs and that now we would like to complete with new challenges aimed to improve the quality of teaching in the school by initiatives as bilingual teaching experiences in Secondary and in Vocational education. These new challenges mean the need of training courses for teachers and management staff to be ready for the new situation. This is the reason of this KA1 project for 3 teachers: IGNACIO QUESADA. Science teacher. B2 level of English. Civil servant in the school. 8 years of experience. Participant or coordinator in the majority of European projects in the school. 2 academic years as Head of Department. Expert for evaluating KA2 projects for Spanish and Flanders National Agencies since 2014. MERCEDES MORENO. Civil servant in the school. 27 years of experience. Coordinator of European projects related with VET and Youth in the school. Participant in the rest of European projects. Expert for evaluating KA2 projects for the Spanish National Agency. Head of Department for more than 12 years. Speaker in 7 events for dissemination of VET and Youth projects at regional and national level. B2 level of English. JOSÉ OLIVA. Civil servant in the school, head of studies since 2014 and 12 years of experience as a teacher. Teaching VET and Secondary levels. B1 level of English and trying to get the B2. As part of the Management department he is able to transfer to our school the positive aspects of the Finnish Education System after the Study Visit to try to improve the quality of teaching in the school. The selection process was done taking into account the teachers with the requirements needed for our goal which were interested or able to take part in a training project abroad for the development of the educational measures aimed to raise the quality of teaching. Each teacher has clear ideas about their tasks: Mercedes has to be trained for teaching business in English in Higher Education (VET level). For that she asks a funding for a 2 weeks course in UK in July 2015. Ignacio must know about educational strategies aimed to improve the quality of teaching from the Finnish model which gets the best results in external evaluation in the European context. He also will try to implement these pedagogical and methodological measures in the secondary level in our school, especially in bilingual groups. José Oliva must try to transfer to our school new measures about management from the Finnish system. The aim is to have better results, to improve the quality of teaching, and to avoid failure and early leaving school. This is a big challenge for Spanish Education in 2020. The 2 teachers ask for a funding for a course in Finland in April 2016 to know about this successful education system. We expect to have in 1 or 2 academic years bilingual groups in Secondary education and also in VET (higher education). The objective is to better teach and more mobility options for students. We also would like to implement new management strategies for the improvement of the quality of teaching and for avoiding failure and early leaving school. This is a big challenge for Spanish Education in 2020. For the future we expect to continue with new projects for training teachers. We think that our Project is really cost effective; as the funding is small and the potential impact is big in our town and in the number of students which will be the beneficiaries. To measure this impact we have objective indicators: get bilingual education in secondary level and get bilingual education in VET group. We also will evaluate the process of transfer new measures for improving students’ results after this project, through our usual questionnaires to pupils and parents and through the results of external evaluation tests. We also will have another indicator: the employment rate of our VET students.
