Context and background of the projectCascade Training: Becoming a Teacher Trainer involves the participation of the three state-run language schools (Escuelas Oficiales de Idiomas) in the region of Burgos. The project is aimed at improving and updating the professional qualifications of the participants in order to meet the demands of a growing sector of students: teachers and prospective teachers who require a certificate in a foreign language in order to teach their subject.Number and profile of participantsA total of 15 teachers take part in the project. They have considerable expertise, especially in the field of teacher training, but they need to update their skills given the growing demand in the above mentioned area.Description of activitiesTo implement the project the participants will take part in teacher trainer courses in different European countries. MethodologyThe courses will be taught by accredited language schools acknowledged by the Council of Europe. The project team will be responsible for monitoring the whole process. The skills acquired will be certified by documents such as Europass Language Passport, regardless of other certificates issued by the provider institution.ResultsThe project aims to provide reflective practice in teacher training and education, access to recent developments in training methodology and understanding of how to design, plan and resource teacher training programmes.ImpactThe project will have a positive impact on the quality of teaching and management of the human and material resources of our schools. It will directly influence our target group of students. In a wider perspective, the whole academic community will benefit thanks to the dissemination of new skills and knowledge and the strengthening of a European dimension in language teaching.Long-term benefitsThe dissemination of our activities among wider sections of the population will attract a larger number of students to our language schools. Our growing visibility in the community will make it possible to reach agreements with authorities and institutions.
