Foreign Language Training on eCommerce Websites

The project sets out to improve communication on the web through effective use of foreign languages. The project is targeted at e-commerce SMEs and higher education students, as well as translators and designers of websites. The project will result in two main products: an educational tool allowing users to draw up foreign language versions of commercial websites and an online course on 'how to communicate on the web' using foreign languages. Project partners will begin by conducting an analysis of language use on e-commerce websites. The results of the analysis will be used for development of the project's educational tool and courses. The educational tool will include: good practice examples of web presentations, including their translations; a dictionary of e-shopping/marketing terms, including product descriptions and a list of frequently used phrases in the three languages. The online course will consist of four parts encompassing: e-marketing management; e-commerce application design; languages for e-commerce (theory) and languages for e-commerce (practice). A teacher manual and a student manual will accompany the developed training course. The educational tool and the online course will be thoroughly tested and evaluated for their viability, including language checks, within the partner countries. The primary language of the project is EN, with DE & ES being additional languages explored for their commercial potential on the web. Dissemination will be via the project website and will also include the production of printed leaflets/publications and attendance at relevant presentations, seminars and meetings.
