FORACOM (Formation pour l'amélioration des compétences)
Start date: Jun 1, 2015, End date: May 31, 2017 PROJECT  FINISHED

Project summary Lycée Francisque Sarcey (a French High School in Dourdan, near Paris) has always wished to assert its European vocation. European German courses were introduced first, European Spanish courses soon followed and bi-national courses in German (ABIBAC) and in Spanish (BACHIBAC) were finally established. After two classes have successfully passed the bilingual BACHIBAC, the school intends to reinforce the course and improve the language proficiency of the students taking the double exam. To achieve this goal, Lycée F. Sarcey wishes the teachers involved in the European Spanish and BACHIBAC courses to improve their knowledge, their teaching skills and the abilities necessary to be in charge. The team includes 6 teachers (C2 reference level in the French language), teaching Spanish or other curricular subjects in Spanish. Other teachers, who do not specialize in languages but wish to take part in video-conferencing lessons or are otherwise involved in European and BACHIBAC courses, are also part of the project. The project FORACOM (Formation for the increase of abilities) consists of 8 mobility activities: 4 advanced training courses, 3 observation training courses and 1 education mission abroad. The project manager (person to be contacted), will be in charge of coordinating and implementing the mobility activities. The School Headmaster and all the teachers involved will help and contribute by holding regular meetings. The advanced training courses will be held through the CIEP (Centre International d’Etudes Pédagogiques), supervised by the French Foreign Office (Ministère des Affaires Etrangères) and the Ministry of Higher Education (Ministère de l’Education et de l’Enseignement Supérieur), or through various Spanish universities (Universidad Internacional Menendes Pelayo, Universidad complutense de Madrid), proposed and organized by the Consejeria de Educacion (Spanish Ministry of Education) in France. After completing their training courses, the teachers will be able to identify their new skills concerning the curricular subject they teach; they will set up lesson plans and will adapt their teaching to the reference levels described in the CEFRL ( Common European Framework of Reference for Languages), so as to best prepare the students to pass their exam. The observation training courses abroad will be held in High School I.E.S Juan de Mairena de San Sebastian de los Reyes (Madrid, Spain), where European French and BACHIBAC courses are currently offered to students. The trainees will discover the Spanish school system, will observe their Spanish counterparts and will debate with them on the teaching methods in bilingual courses. During the 2-month observation course, teaching activities will also be proposed, such as teaching planned lessons to a class. Before and after the training courses, the teachers of both French and Spanish schools will have to get in touch and share resources via the e-Twinning virtual platform. The abilities acquired during the advanced training courses and the educational exchanges with I.E.S Juan de Mairena will be shared with other members of the teaching staff at Lycée F. Sarcey and at other schools offering European and bi-national courses. A guideline will explain the implementation of the project and reports will be written at the end of each training course. These documents will lay the foundation for improved bilingual courses in Lycée F. Sarcey, in terms of skills and abilities to be transmitted to students, thus leading them to success in their school-leaving exams and beyond.
