FootballCV Academy Work Placement Project
Start date: Jun 1, 2015, End date: May 31, 2016 PROJECT  FINISHED

The FootballCV Academy Work Placement Project has enabled fourteen students aged between 17 to 19 years old who were enrolled on a full time football training and educational program, to travel to Belgium and spend two weeks on work placement at Standaard Wetteren, a professional football club based in Wetteren. The project was overseen by the FootballCV Academy in conjunction with Progress Sports who replaced Standaard Wetteren. Prior to the students travelling to Belgium, each participant received Dutch lessons, to give them a basic understanding of the language and enhance their time in Belgium. The projects aimed for each participant to learn, develop and understand new technical skills and tactical awareness, specific to European football that they would not gain here in England. This was enabled through practical training sessions held by the professional coaching staff of Progress Sports, at the club's main stadium and training ground complex. Participants took part in strength and conditioning sessions; received nutritional seminars and lifestyle advice of a professional sportsman from Progress Sports players and staff. The project gave all participants a cultural experience (supported by linguistic training) and underpinned knowledge in key areas of their BTEC Level 3 Diploma in Sport (Development, Coaching and Fitness), which they were currently undertaking, further enhancing the qualification. The project also opened up potential future employment opportunities for participants at Progress Sports and other Belgium clubs, if they demonstrated the required skill level and set, something which would have a huge impact on their future sporting career.
