Food, Culture and You
Start date: Aug 29, 2016, End date: Mar 28, 2017 PROJECT  FINISHED

Food, Culture and You"This project is a youth exchange. Twenty young French from Tournefeuille, would go to Silistra, Bulgaria, for 9 days, between the 3rd and the 11th of October 2016. They would meet up with a group of 20 young people from Silistra. The project is supported by two nonprofit organizations: “without Borders Europeen Friends” in Bulgaria and “Leo Lagrange Sud Ouest” in France.Originally 20 young boys and girls from Tournefeuille (France) wanted to meet a group of young people their age in order to create a relationship between them, and to create a common project. After being informed of the different options, the French groupe chose to organize an ERASMUS+ youth exchange. Then, after searching different program partners, they chose a Bulgarian partner to do the exchange with. They contacted Ronan Le Goff, Tournefeuille ‘s Bulgarian honorary consul, who lead them to the Bulgarian organization “Friends of Europe without Borders”. Quickly the young Bulgarians from Silistra contacted us. Finally, we could move forward together and create a common project.A very important point for us is to respect the group’s will, always choose the young people’s project rather that choosing for them. The adults shall help out the group in order to acheive their objective. learning how to organize their own project and realizing it is our main goal. This project is based on human relationships, and the will to share. During the preparatory part, we organized workshops in both countries to get in touch via internet and traditional mailing. We regularly post videos, photos and texts. Through this project, the young boys and girls want to exchange and experience other cultures. After discussions with each group, they chose to use sociological tools to discover and to explore Bulgarian and French cultures and lifestyles. The group has chosen to use the prism of food and alimentation to lead their research. Through activities such as sharing meals in families, agricultural bio farm visits and cooking workshops, they will study different eating habits and lifestyles. Finally, the sociological data collected by young people will be used to create an itinerant exhibition. The first exhibition will take place the same day in the” Point Information Jeunesse” in Tournefeuille and in Silistra’s high school. The exhibition will then take place throughout different places in France and Bulgaria. For nearly a year, the Bulgarians and the French have been trained in project management. We are sure that they will implement their skills learned in their future projects, but also in their professional lives.Through this project we expect to promote youth mobility within the EU and create a sense of belonging to a common multicultural territory. Through different activities, we hope to create a sustainable extra-state link between the two groups of boys and girls. Moreover, this project will provide knowledge in sociology. Finally, this project will enable them to understand the ability of art in the transmission of information. More broadly, we hope through this project to sharpen young people's curiosity and make them want to experiment.
