Follow Your Compass
Start date: Aug 1, 2014, End date: Dec 31, 2015 PROJECT  FINISHED

The project “Follow your Compass” (FYC) included 2 volunteers, one from Republic of Moldova and one from Poland. From the September 2014 for one year, they carried out their european voluntary service at the association YouNet. Both the volunteers came from disadvantaged backgrounds. FYC gave the opportunity to 2 youths with fewer possibilities to start a path of social, personal and professional growth meanwhile contributing to strengthen the youth policies and the European awareness in the area of Bologna. The goal of the project is that the 2 volunteers find and follow their compass and at the same time help other local youths to find and follow theirs. This objective was pursued through participatory and informal methods of education in which the volunteers learned by doing and supporting the organization of cultural events and youth information and European awareness. Two paths based on the volunteers’ needs and YouNet local activities have been followed: 1. Youth for Europe (Paulina Walacik ): to promote intercultural dialogue, European awareness and learning mobility. 2 . Youth for Youth (Anna Ivanova): to promote and support cultural initiatives for young people , enriching them in terms of European dimension. The project involed youths that at the moment of the selection process didn´t have any job and who had finished their university studies. Thanks to the activities which they carried out during their EVS, the volunteers improved their knowledge about EU and its offering opportunities, met other young people, and got to know a new culture and language, worked in a multicultural and multigenerational environment. Furthermore, they got to know lot of local situations active in the sphere of promotion the inter-culture and mobility, learned good practice and took it also as an example for the future developments of local activities in their home countries. The prevalent methodology was the informal one as it is more appropriate to provide skills in an indirectly through experience among peers without prejudices and in a democratic way. The activities were divided and differentiated into two paths: Youth for Youth and Youth for Europe. In the first one, the Moldavian volunteer was included in local activities with youths by organizing/ preparation/ promotion of the cultural events connected with music, cinema, and comic strips. In the second one the Polish volunteer was included in the world of local and international initiatives and projects related to the European dimension and she will get to know the EU in the interesting and attractive way. The project had a strong impact on the involved youths both on local or international level. The impact was not just on the 2 volunteers, but also on all the young people who that entered in touch with YouNet and the volunteers during their daily activities.
