Förderung digitaler und interkultureller Kompetenzen
Start date: Jun 1, 2016, End date: May 31, 2018 PROJECT  FINISHED

Project context:Based on our philosophy of a sustainable development of competencies, we constantly aim at expanding and improving the educational opportunities we offer. Increasing digitalization in all areas of life, especially in the tertiary sector, require the development of suitable skills for handling digital devices. As occupations in business already are and increasingly become internationalized this can best be achieved on a European level. With our Business College focusing on foreign languages (“Berufskolleg Fremdsprachen”) and our College of Further Education specializing in international economics and business studies (“Wirtschaftsgymnasium international”), our portfolio includes two well-established international educational opportunities. Due to this, significant overlaps with potential partner schools are evident.Project objectives:We aim at broadening our teachers’ skills and abilities in the field of digital teaching. Based on that we would like to extend our network with European schools which are on a comparable level of digitalization. This will enable us to derive the critical success factors in the development of digital learning with reference to all levels of school life – from a single lesson to quality assurance on the whole.Number and profile of participants:To achieve our objectives, six teachers who are involved in the tablet project will be sent to European countries for further training. This way they will obtain additional and strengthen already acquired digital and intercultural competencies. Moreover, members of the school administration will be actively involved to guarantee a transfer of the gained insights to the administrative level.Description of activities:At first all the participants will receive basic training related to the digitalization of teaching, followed by the participation in a European further education and training program (atempo). The insights and experiences gained in this program will then be spread among the teaching staff of our school. Afterwards the teachers will be given the opportunity to observe and evaluate the implementation of digital teaching when visiting selected European partner schools.Conducting the project:The whole project will be accompanied and supported by the so-called “Steuergruppe” (“steering group”) of our school. In return, this group will request and monitor adequate presentation, documentation and spreading of results.Intended results and effects:Our intention is to strengthen and to expand the pedagogic, didactic, linguistic, and technical skills and abilities of the teachers involved. At the same time, the school administration will be given orientation for the design of a corresponding framework for our school.Utility in the long-run:As the international perspective of our teaching staff has been widened, competencies which are essential in an increasingly digitalized and internationalized world will be conveyed naturally to our students of the courses mentioned above. This way, Walther-Groz-Schule will be enabled to contribute actively to the development of education and teaching in Europe.
