Fluchtursachen neu betrachten - Afrikanische Perspektiven auf das "Flüchtlingsproblem"
Start date: Jan 1, 2016, End date: Jul 31, 2017 PROJECT  FINISHED

Media and society's attention has been drawn to the topics of flight and migration due to increasing numbers of catastrophies, amendments to immigration law as well as the self-organized protests by refugees - thoughout Europe. Our project aims to connect the protests of refugees in Germany, their perspectives and claims with rigourous historical and political scientific analysis. We invite experts from Africa, the diaspora and Germany to add underrepresented perspectives to the public discourse in order to give them voice and diversify the interpretations of causes of flight and migration. Local expertise of scientists, activists and artists in their home countries can immensely contribute to the enlightment and mutual understanding within Germany and other European countries. Such a better understanding also enables participants to better understand complex causes of flight and migration as well as to assess the responsibility of industrialized countries.AfricAvenir invites a European volunteer to contribute to this project for one year. This project entails further dialoge fora in Berlin and other cities, the development of school curricula, public relation and work on publications as well as lobbying leaders and opinion makers in politics and civil society. In the long term such added perspectives as well as the distribution though different channels add to the self-understanding of host and guest communities within Germany and Europe. Additionally, participants are sensitized for a more complex picture of flight and migration from Africa and are encourage to include such knowledge in their future daily and professional decision-making.
