Flere aktive unge!
Start date: Aug 1, 2014, End date: Apr 30, 2015 PROJECT  FINISHED

There are many benefits of being an active citizen. You gain knowledge on democracy and how democracy works, but that is not all. Regardless whether you are actively participating in associations, student councils, political work or other, there is great personal and professional development to gain. It enables young people at an early stage to start creating their work. Also, more active citizens provide enhanced and improved democracy in the future. Unfortunately several reasons appear why young people "choose" not to be active citizens. It's reasons like "I do not know what I gain from it", "I do not know where to go to achieve influence”, and "I have not heard anything about it at my school" etc. Therefore, a group of young people in the municipality of Kolding has taken the initiative to make an effort to bring this on the political agenda in the hope that more youngsters will become active young citizens in the municipality in the future. In order to bring this on the political agenda and create a dialogue on the subject between young people and decision-makers in the municipality, the working group behind the project wants to hold a youth conference, featuring workshops, presentations and debate, resulting in one or more specific actions that will lead to more youngsters becoming active citizens. The working group behind the initiative consists of young people between 13 and 20 years from the Tværpolitisk Ungdoms Kolding (Cross Political Youth Kolding), Fælleselevråd Kolding (Common Student council Kolding), representatives of the student bodies in higher education and Kolding Youth schools youth council. Further, there is an established partnerships with various organizations and associations, including Skovparkens sports club, a sports club in a residential social area with many young people from other ethnic backgrounds. There are fifteen young people participating in the working group, plus a staff member from the youth school Kolding, which helps the working group with various tasks of the project, including writing this application. The conference will bring together 100 young people between 13 and 20 years of age, all of which are associated with a democratic body of the municipality from youth political parties, student councils at schools, associations in the municipality and more. Some of the youngsters we define as normal resourceful youngsters, but we also have youngsters with fewer opportunities. These youngsters are for example from a student body of a school for high risk youngsters and young people with an other ethical background from an association in a social building complex. In addition to the young people involved 20 decision makers on the youth field in the municipality of Kolding in the form of town councilors and representatives from the department of Leisure and Culture, department of Children and Youth, Kolding Youth school, the Educational Committee and local associations. The working group are to work in a formal context, in the sense of working in a structured and project -based way, but the decide on the terms and there will be a lot of in formal and non-formal learning going on. There are three meetings for the work group. The first meeting focuses on budget and ordering of food, materials, posters and so on, and the final invitations are made and sent out to young people and decision-makers who are going to take part in the conference. The second meeting is a co-ordinating meeting where a plan of who does what is made (responsibilities during the conference). The third meeting is a preparation meeting where all materials are packed ect. The conference will be a mixture of worksshops, debate, developing ideas, præsentations and discussions. The conference will be opened with a welcoming speech from a representative from the working group and from Kolding Youth School and will be including meal breaks and a visit from a local comedian. There will be room for networking between the youngsters and decision makers. In time, the conference will help to encourage more young people to become active citizens in the municipality. It is hoped that there will be one or more specific actions from the conference, as young people in collaboration with decision-makers create and take forward and implement. It is also a wish that the conference can help to lay the groundwork for future cooperation between young people and decision makers by creating a shorter path between them through dialogue, reflection and general networking at the conference. The action(s) that will hopefully become reality after the conference , will be measured by whether the outcome is actually more active young people. In collaboration with the youth political parties, student councils, youth political parties, student councils and associations, any increase in the interest rate will monitored, which will result in a small report including evaluation and statistics.
