Fit4Europe – a mosaic of opportunities to increase vocational skills through work experience in the EU

Context/background of project: Child and Youth Services, health care, hotel / restaurant trade, food trade and Berufskolleg need intercultural and international trained skilled workers. There is a need for professionals, institutions and businesses, training schools and educational staff to do international exchanges to improve their professional skills. The project contributes to the promotion of professional, transnational mobility and a European education policy, with a view to develop a European identity of young people. There is a need for further education modules and curricular developments of professional trainings and recognized qualifications, as well as local, regional and international networks. This is the Basis of this project. Objectives of project- participants: Extension of linguistic, intercultural, professional competencies through getting to know culture, theory and practice of professional activities in other countries; to prove promotion of European identity and occupational mobility; in your job new strategies for action in testing an unfamiliar environment; reflection on their own educational goals and practices concerning cultur; extension of the horizon; strengthening of professionalism through mobility and access to prospects of education, training and career within Europe. Objectives of the partners: valuable acquisition through exchange of contents and methods of professional activities and training concepts. Number and profile of participants: 52 trainees of our vocational school for social education, post-secondary college to achieve an exam as nursery nurses/youth care workers + universitary entrance qualification, vocational schools for child care assistants and social work assistants, 52 trainees of hotel and restaurant trade and food trade, 15 teachers of Berufskolleg Ehrenfeld. Description of activities: Work placements abroad with partners in Belgium, Estonia, Finnland, France, Italy, Latvia, Netherlands, Romania, Spain, Turkey and United Kingdom. The trainings are mandatory work-placements, an integral part of the full-time training. In the dual system of training, they are optional, but integral part of training according to the Vocational Training Act. The teachers have the possibility to gain experiences by teaching and learning in vocational schools of the partners, interact with colleagues or jobshadow in institutions. Methods of carrying out the project: The work placements will be executed in blocks of 4 weeks for the participants - nursery nurses/youth care workers of vocational school and secondary college in the 2nd year of training, for the participants - child care assistants in blocks of 3 weeks at the end of 1st year of training, for the participants - social assistants in blocks of 4 weeks or blocks of 5 weeks in the 2nd year of training. The participants of the hotel / restaurant trade and food trade can do a 3 week work placement abroad between the 1st year of their apprenticeship and the beginning of the 3rd year of their apprenticeship. The educational staff organizes the teaching and learning courses in consultation with the heads of their management and with the partners. The preparation of the participants (trainees) begins after the confirmation of the grant at the beginning of the school year in lessons and in supplementary courses, the evaluation with all involved people will be after the course. The preparation of the educational staff will be performed within the framework of training with external partners. The cooperation of all partners will take place in regular exchanges and meetings at various levels, especially in the network of Contact-2103. There will be an intensive evaluation with all partners. Description of the envisaged results and impact: The above mentioned objectives are supposed to be achieved by the trainees and the educational staff. All partners strive for further development of modules for common European-oriented education and improvement of educational concepts for cultural diversity. Cooperation at a European level is the best means to improve the innovative concepts for the education and training of professional groups. That had been successful in the previous Leonardo projects. Potential longer term benefits: We expect that the trainees will improve their chances on the national and European labor market, expand their professional, personal and social skills and develop a European identity. The educational staff will take on current trends and improve the quality of their vocational lessons.
