Fit in Sprachen
Start date: Jul 1, 2015,
End date: Jun 30, 2017
The Handelsakademie and Handelsschule Feldkirch (Higher Level Secondary Commercial College) specializes in business competences on an international level and puts special emphasis on Entrepreneurship Education. Another main focus in education are languages. As the new curriculum, including the „modulare Oberstufe“ (MOST), defines CLIL as one of the „General Educational Goals“, there is a demand for CLIL-teachers in general subjects as well as in business-related subjects. On top of that foreign language teaching needs new impulses to meet the new requirements. Structured training courses will help to reach these goals by improving the command of foreign languages and offering specific methods for content and language integrated learning as well as providing innovative methodology for foreign language teaching. Our project „Fit in Sprachen“ pursues two goals. On the one hand it aims at improving the knowledge of foreign languages as well as the acquiring of effective methods for teaching CLIL in general subjects and business related subjects. On the other hand it will enable foreign language teachers to come up to the new challenges. Apart from that well-trained teachers will motivate students to use mobilities themselves and go abroad to gain work experience with internships, placements etc. The ultimate goal will be to provide students with the necessary skills and knowledge in case they seek employment connected with international business or further education abroad. As this project covers two years, seven committed teachers have been chosen. They teach the subjects Geography, History, International Economic and Cultural Areas, Business Administration, Project Management, Business Information Technology and other business related subjects, as well as English and French. Three teachers will attend further training courses in the second year. Our headmaster has chosen the participants in a fair and open selection procedure. The aim of our project “Fit in Sprachen” is twofold. Firstly it will lay the foundations necessary to start with CLIL-teaching at our school and secondly foreign language teachers will be able to respond to new challenges by brushing up their linguistic skills and by applying innovative methodology and techniques. With follow-up projects we want to reach our long-term objective which is the instalment of bilingual teaching in selected classes. Furthermore foreign language teaching will be adapted to meet the new challenges of the “modulare Oberstufe”.
