First HEIRS-RICHIE Conference: Rethinking European Integration History in Times of Crisis
Start date: Sep 1, 2015, End date: Aug 31, 2016 PROJECT  FINISHED

First HEIRS-RICHIE Conference: Rethinking European Integration History in Times of CrisisApplying body: Réseau International des Jeunes Chercheurs en Histoire de l’Intégration Européenne (RICHIE)– in collaboration with the History of European Integration Research Society (HEIRS)Main organisers: Aurélie Andry (PhD Student, European University Institute; Steering Committee Member, HEIRS) and Haakon Ikonomou (External Lecturer, SAXO Copenhagen; PhD Student, European University Institute)The aim of the Conference will be to initiate a rethinking of European integration History in the light of the current crisis. It will explore the intertwining of crises, capitalism and ideologies on the one hand and European integration history on the other hand – in an effort to historicise European integration and its shifting nature. The Conference will take place in the spring of 2016 at the Historical Archives of the EU and will be the first event jointly organised by the two transnational research networks of European integration historians: RICHIE and HEIRS. It will consist in a 2,5-days event, with an innovative format that will combine a doctoral workshop, a thematic conference and public keynote lectures, and will bring together junior and senior researchers in the field of History and related disciplines. In addition, we will invite outstanding undergraduate and master-level students from all around Europe to attend the conference, in an effort to cross-fertilize and spread content, in line with the objectives of the Jean Monnet Project. The project will also aim to have a wider impact and visibility beyond its stakeholders, thanks to the creation of its own interactive webpage containing all the conference content; the launching of a specific ‘academia.edu’ interdisciplinary network on European integration; and the posting of keynote lecture podcasts in free access on ‘iTunes U’, an academic podcast platform.
