Find the Connection
Start date: Aug 1, 2015, End date: Oct 31, 2015 PROJECT  FINISHED

The „Find the Connection” project has been prepared by two groups of young people fascinated by the folklore of their home regions. By going through with this project we wanted to take up the roles of researchers and find out what are the connections between social norms, religion, history and geography of a region and it’s folklore in form of dances, songs costumes and rituals. Taking a closer look at those interconnections based on our own regions as well as the Podhale region in Poland was the main goal of this project. At the same time we wanted to try to verify our thesis ourselves. In today’s model of education, where most of the knowledge is served in a passive way to the student, we tried to take advantage of being able to run the whole process of enquiry on our own. We believe that the sole act of searching for an answer can be as valuable of a lesson as the answer itself. Thus, we have chosen the Erasmus+ programme. In order to reach our goal we have planned for a series of activities, most important of which being the youth exchange, that took place between the 7th and the 16th of August in Murzasichle in the Podhale region. Two groups of young people – 20 from Poland and 20 from Lithuania, tried to achieve a deeper understanding of the conditions shaping our traditions and culture. It enabled us to have more respect for different cultures and played a major role in promoting tolerance. During our activities we used various methods of non-formal education: -dance and song workshops, -digital and traditional presentations, -team-working, -individual work, -terrain games, -simulation games, -moderated discussions, -oxford-style debates, -activities engaging the local community, -energizers and integration activities. We hope that this intercultural dialog that we started, will spread to other communities similar to ours, and to other organisations with similar fascinations. This way it has a chance to reach a truly European influence. It is our opinion that this kind of glance into our past will grant us the knowledge and experience needed to actively shape the future of our integrating continent.
