Continuing our content language integrated learning classes in English, which we launched some years ago, we now want to focus on the second living foreign languages, starting from 7th grade, in order to obtain sustainable and long-term effects on CLIL. In addition to the conventional approach, based on CEFR teaching, both French and Italian should be applied in projects, so as to create authentic language learning situations. These situations should focus on content, independent of exams, and consequently emphasize the importance of further European languages such as French and Italian as means of communication in today’s intercultural, professional world.Consequently, a selected number of French and Italian teachers from our school would like to apply for skill-oriented and didactic-methodical training to provide pupils and their parents with a professional approach.To maintain motivation, these trainees will spread the knowledge they acquired concerning planning of curriculum, methods and techniques among their colleagues. Besides skill-based general language training in an authentic environment, it is our aim to obtain a deeper insight into current cultural and socio-economic developments.In addition to the regular French and Italian lessons, EAA classes will implement special project units, which include presentations. These project units will be secured by one additional weekly lesson per second living foreign language. e-Twinning is supposed to facilitate cooperation with European partner classes and eventually lead to exchange programmes.Thus, our students should be well-prepared for the requirements which are set by an interrelated European professional world. It is our aim not only to boost the students’ knowledge of the languages themselves , but also their ability to present factual knowledge in the foreign language, which is of particular interest for personal and professional mobility.The immersion into authentic language situations, the maintenance of contacts on European level , the increasing didactic know-how and personal language competence as well as a particularly well-founded didactic preparation will lead to a long-term, sustainable implementation of multilingual classes at B(R)G Leibnitz.
