Ferdinand-TUTOR
Start date: Oct 1, 2015, End date: Sep 30, 2016 PROJECT  FINISHED

The “Ferdinand - TUTOR” project has as a starting point the intensive informatics students’ actual needs, as well as the priorities in the institution’s development plan that aim at ensuring equal chances to education and bridging theory and practice with a view to offering them a fair chance on the IT labour market. Being placed in IT companies abroad, the students will approach learning from a new perspective, acquiring hands-on work experience and the necessary competences for a successful professional career, either to work in an IT company or as a freelancer. Moreover, their participation in mobilities will contribute to their personal development, allowing them to broaden their linguistic, cultural, interpersonal horizons. The aim of the project is to enhance the quality of the students’ initial formation, by enabling them to gain experience on the labour market, and the specific objectives are as follows: 1. gaining a better approach to digital and linguistic knowledge, abilities and competences necessary for the creation of tutorials for different categories of public; 2. becoming familiarised with and adapting to the work conditions of some IT specialized European firms by using state-of-the-art IT technology; 3.strengthening the students’ motivation for practical IT acquisition, permanent learning, in general, and being in touch with the latest IT improvements, in particular; 4. obtaining European certificates for the digital and linguistic skills and competences; 5. experimenting team/collaborative work in a new, European environment, with the aim of developing interpersonal, intercultural competences and equalising chances. The direct beneficiaries are 32 intensive mathematics-informatics students in IX-Xth forms, who are going to work in IT companies in Italy for 3 weeks. During this period, the students are to create video tutorials for different target audiences, considering both their own personal development and that of the host companies. The expected results are both technical/professional and personal. On the one hand, the students will develop competences/ skills/ knowledge that aim at: using video editing programs, doing practical exercises on different types of audio/video files or sound improvement, applying effects and filters, creating tutorials by means of a video capturing program (Camtasia Studio/Captivate) etc. All the products created throughout the mobility will be part of a digital portfolio. The tutorials will be uploaded on the institution’s site and used by the company for its specific needs. On the other hand, the project will contribute to the students’ personal development through getting some key competences, such as English and Italian communication, interpersonal and cultural skills The communication between partners will be achieved through synchronous and asynchronous means, thus ensuring an efficient collaboration. The students have access to the labour market through the host companies, working both individually and in teams, taking into account the company’s needs. The first mobility will take place in 2016 and the second one in 2016. The partners mutually agree on the practical details related to the mobility , the students’ safety, the certification of the practical acquisitions, the planning of activities and task sharing, the evaluation methods as well as the most efficient and transparent dissemination methods. The impact on the beneficiaries and their institution is completed by the local, national and international impact, through increasing the quality and number of mobilities at European level, the cooperation among institutions and firms, the transparency of life-long qualification, attaining an efficient transition from school to real life. The long-term potential of this project, which ensures its sustainability, targets at: - a wider variety of the SDC (school decision curriculum) offer of the college, by submitting an optional course all the science students will benefit from (not only the intensive informatics ones); - a better communication both among students and between students and teachers, parents and community will be created by means of soft tutorials facilitating online communication and using the existing platforms etc. - developing learning autonomy and forming the key competence of learning to learn. - promoting long-distance learning, as tutorials are converted into the very teacher who explains step by step how we should use the soft programs the students, parents, teachers need; thus, the students will learn for each other and teach others at the same time.
