Fenêtre ouverte sur la Grèce : langue, culture et traditions
Start date: Jul 1, 2014, End date: Jun 30, 2016 PROJECT  FINISHED

Our project is set in College St-Vincent in Soignies where three ancient Greek teachers, who actively militate to promote ancient Greek with students - more than 300 are involved - , decided a few years ago to broaden their horizons to modern Greek language and culture. As a result they have joined for nearly ten years evening classes in modern Greek and trainings from various organizations including NEOHEL in Greece. Every two year they take their pupils to modern Greece and they also organize modern adaptations of plays of antique authors . Recently they have called for opening a modern Greek class in the third degree of the secondary school. This will open in September 2014. To improve their knowledge of the current language and culture, they need immersion trainings . They chose trainings provided by NEOHEL because they have followed them almost every summer since 2006 and they appreciate them for their high quality and the professionalism of the teachers. With this training they will be able to develop their language skills but also get advice and references for pedagogy from specialized trainers in the distribution of Greek to foreigners (they have to their credit many publications in this area) . In the long term, they will acquire a sufficient level and will be able to establish contacts in Greece to organize language exchanges between pupils from different secondary schools . All this will allow our school a greater openness to a European country which is the corner stone of our civilization and yet so little-known in our schools.
