Feministischer Austausch Athen/Leipzig
Start date: Aug 1, 2015, End date: Nov 30, 2015 PROJECT  FINISHED

Together with our partner group from Athens we used the form of an exchange to share our experiences and knowledge in dealing with discrimination based on gender, sexuality or other (missing) privileges. Besides creating a transnational network our aim was to empower young (lesbian) women and transgender people and motivate them to engage in social activism and therewith live their responsibility as young european citizens. 14 young women and transgender people from Athens and about 15 young women and transgender people from Leipzig, all between 16 and 29 years, as well as 3 accompanying older people were participating in the project. We organzied a range of different events. On the one hand there were several discussion rounds with the following topic: "Gender and Socialization", "Spaces with Little Discrimination", "Political Engagement as an LGBTI* Person". Besides that there was an exchange concerning media, where different movies and the work of queer musicians was discussed. This led to a sharing of perspectives on the cultural situation of LGBTI* artists in Leipzig and Athens. In order to see practical examples of political engagement we visited some institutions in Leipzig, amongst them the Rosalinde e.V., an LGBT-association, and a solidary ecological farm near Leipzig. To the latter we made a bike tour with bikes provided by FLIT*za, a women-lesbian-bisexual-trans*- bike repair workshop that we also visitied as another practical example of empowerment work. According to personal reports and a final reflection round, the project did not only lead to empowerment and courage for socio-political engagement but also to transnational friendships and a base for future cooperation. Besides a sociopolitical culture project in the form of a common HipHop Project there are plans for future visits and sharing and spreading the experience or using them for follow up projects. In the long term the project is supposed to promote the values of the European Union such as justice, human dignity and tolerance and to encourage the participants to become self-confident european citizens that participate in the develompent of a democratic society.
