The ’Progress and Development in the Secondary School’ project wishes to improve the education and activities in the secondary school by the participants of the project and after the dissemination phase by the actors of the education with the help of professional development and cronyism. It aims at transforming the learning-teaching process to be more diverse, at a higher level, more open to other cultures and communities. Óbudai Árpád Gimnázium is involved in wide-ranging activities which require high-level performance; these activities are for instance education of specialized classes, completing common projects with sister schools abroad, acting as a ‘Talent point’ (official title for schools mentoring talented students in special educational forms), the practical training of the university students. These activities among others demand up-to-date knowledge and professional excellence. In the project 5 teachers chosen on a well-grounded basis are to participate in professional trainings. They also receive the task of developing international relationships and obtaining any useful linguistic or cultural material, of improving their target-language skills besides gaining experience. Having done the previously well-defined preparatory steps, the teachers travel to the target-country and complete the course and defined tasks to the best of their knowledge, then returning to Hungary they disseminate their experience, information and the connections in different channels. From the project the school expects the EU competencies to improve and to have wider-ranging international connections. The effect of this is that the students will perform on an even higher level and teachers will be more motivated. In the long run the school is planning to increase the level of education constantly, expand the possibilities offered for the students and the teachers and would like to participate actively in the international and home educational processes.
