FaMe - Food and Multiculturalism: Taste of Mediterranean
Start date: Aug 1, 2015, End date: Feb 29, 2016 PROJECT  FINISHED

The aim of the project ““FaMe: Food and Multiculturalism: Taste of Mediterranean” is to discover the foodstuff belonging to the Mediterranean area as a vehicle of meeting between the different European cultures and as an instrument to boost entrepreneurship. The Mediterranean diet has been declared as one of the immaterial heritage of humanity by UNESCO in 2010, because of its healthiness and the equilibrium between the products that are part of it. Moreover, food and its challenges are the protagonists of the EXPO 2015 in Milan, in which Regione Sicilia will be the Official Partner of the bio-mediterranean cluster, because of the role of the island in the Mediterranean cookery. The safeguard of this traditional diet is also one of the target of European Union, which carries on different projects with this purpose, such us the strategic project funded by ENPI CBC Programme “MedDiet –Mediterranean diet and enhancement of traditional foodstuff”. The target of our proposal is to let the young people know how they can use natural products in a responsible and sustainable way, the value of food in every culture and society and its innate potentiality in an entrepreneurial view. The project means to set these goals: improve the level of key competences and skills of young people, including those with fewer opportunities; enhance better use of EU transparency and recognition tools and the dissemination of good practices; enhance the international dimension of youth activities; increase self-empowerment, sense of initiative and entrepreneurship; enhance notably the participants' foreign languages competence; raise participants' awareness and understanding of other cultures and countries; offer participants the opportunity to identify common values with people from different countries in spite of their cultural differences. The project is addressed to 20 partecipants, young people aged between 20-28 years, including young people with fewer opportunities, from Mediterranean countries (Italy and Spain) and non-Mediterranean ones (Poland, Hungary, Estonia). The participants’ heterogeneity is aimed at increasing the awareness and the acquisition of competences (knowledge, skills, attitudes) in order to improve their personal growth and their entrepreneurship in the European and extra European labour market. Each group of participants is going to have its own group leader, chosen by each sending partner on his/her training pertaining to this issue. The participants that will take part to the project are young people interested in environment and green economy, willing to know new instruments of entrepreneurship, new people of different cultures and with an attitude for practical knowledge. “FaMe” project will be articulated in different activities organized on an agrifood path; each day will be dedicated to a typical product of the diet, involving young participant through non-formal learning and their practical contribute. The activities contemplate workshops, exercises, debates, role-plays, simulations, outdoor activities; the aim is to let young people discover new cultures, habits, lifestyles, through peer-learning. At the end of the project participants will be able to use the products of their diet in a sustainable way and, contextually, in an entrepreneurial one, but at the same time they will absorb elements from different diets so that they could promote a healthy lifestyle by the use of biological products. Moreover, they will lean to make a new and different use of known or less known products, by stimulating ideas, creativity and business creation.
