FAIROPA
Start date: Jun 20, 2014, End date: Dec 20, 2014 PROJECT  FINISHED

Young people aged 14-17 from Turkey, Italy and Germany get in contact to become acquainted with each other and to evaluate possibilities for a border-crossing network of student-run “Young Enterprise” companies. On the part of the German pupils such a “Young Enterprise” company is already in place and looking for trading options in terms of both new products and local partners in the countries of origin of olives, olive oil and pomegranates. Olives and pomegranates are being cultivated in the regions of Dösemealti (Turkey) and Montallegro (Italy) and will set the ground for the two (2-3 week) initial encounters in these regions planned for 2014. In case of a successful start the beginning cooperation will be continued by multilateral meetings in 2015. Using the example of olives and pomegranates the involved young people are learning how these are cultivated, which quality attributes exist and how the supply and value chain looks like. Responsible-minded young entrepreneurs also want to know more about living conditions, culture, earnings, leisure etc. of the people who produce the food products. Anticipating the symbolic importance of both cultivated plants, a “FAIROPA” sculpture will be erected at each venue which will be kept in a public area as a permanent monument. In order to reach the goal of a mutual understanding the meetings in Dösemealti and Montallegro will consist of five different workshops: Builders’ Hut FAIROPA, Food Culture, Encounter via assistance in harvesting, work and everyday world, Product Processing and Project Documentation. It is the task of the Italian and Turkish youth to prepare the product-related content of the meetings whereas in exchange the German youth will equip them with knowledge about purposes and function of “Young Enterprise” companies. In a second step both parties will mutually develop ideas about the foundation of a “Young Enterprise” company in each of the regions (Dösemealti and Montallegro) and possibilities for cooperation between the companies. If these activities will successfully lead into a tri-lateral network of “Young Enterprise” companies which will cooperate beyond these encounters the most important goal of FAIROPA will be reached. Further multinational activities for 2015 are planned.
