Face D Music
Start date: Sep 1, 2015, End date: Dec 31, 2016 PROJECT  FINISHED

In an effort to to involve more young people in the Structured Dialogue process, in particular those young people with fewer opportunities who were never involved in such a process Aġenzija Żgħażagħ the agency that who coordinates the Structured Dialogue process always thrives to come up with innovative ways to involve such cohorts. One such group of young people are those attending the Youth.Inc programme. Youth.Inc is an inclusive educational experiential programme for young people between the age of 16 and 21 who finished compulsory schooling without any formal certification but nevertheless wish to continue to build on their educational experience and gain more knowledge, values and skills to either enter the labour market or gain qualifications to continue further training. Through this project 120 young people from Youth.Inc will have the opportunity to reflect on and discuss policy issues that effect them directly with key policy makers using non-formal education as a tool and music as a medium for debating. A group of these young people will come together and with the help of seasoned artists, musicians and youth support workers they will compose four original songs revolving around the themes of early school leaving and NEETs and improving literacy amongst young people. These songs will eventually serve as the medium through which these young people will voice their ideas on the issues. This project will come to an end with a 2 day conference. During this meeting the young people will perform the songs to the participants, including key policy makers in the area of education and training, and the songs will serve as a background document and context for the discussions that will ensue. During the first day the topic of early school leaving and NEETs will be discussed in detail and on the second day the topic of literacy amongst young people will be addressed. Finally, to ensure a wider dissemination of results a CD with the songs and a booklet with the outcomes of the national youth meetings will be produced and distributed to all secondary schools, key policy makers and other stakeholders in the area of education and training. Such a project will give a voice to a group of young people who although they are the ones that are directly effected by the issues that this project addresses i.e. early school leaving and NEETs and literacy amongst young people - ironically they are the ones whose voice, ideas and opinions are least listened to.
