f technical cooperation to the development of the industrial applications of Pinus Pinaster (ATLANWOOD)
Start date: Sep 30, 2003, End date: Dec 29, 2006 PROJECT  FINISHED

This project concerns pooling knowledge and experience of industrial processing technologies for pinus pinaster pine wood in the three regions (Galicia, Northern Portugal, and Aquitaine) that have the common characteristic of large forested area. The Lead Partner and other partners plan to: ·Compile and analyse technical information, synthesis documents with translations, publications, etc. ·Develop a guide to businesses. Create and develop a web site. The project is intended to enhance development of the wood processing industry and the forestry sector through technology transfers, and then increase their skill centres. - Obtain a method for analysing and identifying best practices projects: this means drawing up a matrix of elements for analysis common to all the regions, comparing and contrasting the "Best practices" projects from each partner region. This will enable us to draw up an accompanying guide for the project agents at regional level; - Create a working method for the agents in the regional centres; - Identify and analyse the "Best Practices" in projects working with the information society: an action conducted in all the partner regions; - Pilot project for the Virtual Collaboration Network; - European and international cooperation network: developing a series of actions, especially through the Virtual Network, to promote cooperation with other regions in the Atlantic Area, both European and international. This project seeks to contribute to the development of the Information Society by setting up an instrument which will enable fast dissemination of best practices in the different sectors in this field. Achievements: ✔ Improvement and promotion of the cooperation between research centres in the Atlantic Area, and particularly between the CIS-Madera and the CTBA in Bordeaux ✔ Facilitation of access by companies to information concerning the technologies applicable in the processing of the wood of Pinus pinaster by the publication of an article and by hosting seminars in each country ✔ Dissemination and promotion of the possibilities of developing applications based on the process of processing Pinus pinaster, also by the publication of an article and by hosting seminars ✔ Implementation of technological R&D projects developed by the technology centres, in particular by the CIS – Madera in Galicia, in enhancing the use of the raw material Pinus pinaster (construction of wooden houses)
