The overall objectives of the project are to improve the environmental situation in Leningrad Region and St. Petersburg; to improve management of industrial and municipal wastewater sludge treatment processes; to promote utilization of biodegradable waste fractions; to reduce nutrient load to the rivers and Baltic Sea; to reduce greenhouse gas emissions; to reduce toxic emissions to water systems; to improve understanding and knowledge change in environmental issues between Finland and Russia and to increase environmental business and innovations in both countries.
