Explore the Voluntary Spirit
Start date: Jun 17, 2014, End date: Nov 25, 2015 PROJECT  FINISHED

Young people between school and life of adults with responsibilities to themselves as personal development, formation of family and professional realization often feel uncertain about their qualities and skills, values and priorities. Their natural aptitude for idealization runs into realities, often hostile, and the necessity to be too pragmatic in modern, over dynamic society. They want to find themselves, to organize themselves in such a way that will guarantee that they will have qualitative and harmonious life of full value. In this context we developed Explore the Voluntary Spirit (EVS) project. Voluntarism is a platform that allows us to find ourselves through activities in favor of others and society and thus to build up our personal and social health, activity and prosperity. The goal of our project is to support young people from different European countries – directly and indirectly – to come to know themselves better, to find out their strong and weak sides, what really interests them and what they want to do in the future in terms of professional realization and social commitment, to arrange their priorities adequately in accordance to reality. The project will include activities by which the participants will develop key competences and skills that will make them successful personally and professionally – confidence, team work, tolerance, audibility, understanding and acceptance of others and the different, good will, openness, empathy, adaptivity in unknown environment, sharing, curiosity, striving for development through life. It aims the participants to get practical skills to work in non-governmental sector, project thinking, planning and implementation, formulating and standing up for socially significant causes. Another objective is to create preconditions for getting to know other cultures in terms of specifics, traditions, values, and thus each participant will be able to expand his or her horizons and European self-awareness and he or he will understand better and accept the uniqueness of each culture and the importance of cultural integration on European level for our development. In EVS project 4 young people – 2 girls and 2 boys, from 4 European countries will have the chance to experience the constructive spirit of voluntarism in their journey to themselves. They will be aged 18 to 30. They will speak different languages and will have different educational and professional background. Advantage will be given to those who live in outlying places with limited opportunities or who have limited economic resources to study, travel and develop trough access to cultural exchange. They will be highly motivated people to improve in order to be of use to them and to the communities they live in. They will be searching and proactive to make the most of their participation in the project. The volunteers under our project will participate in the implementation of ongoing projects and activities of SMART Foundation in the field of voluntarism, career development of young people, civic inclusion, amateur applied arts for people of different ages, etc. They will take part in workshops about career orientation, multicultural dialogue, project thinking, planning and implementation, starting an own business, etc. They will prepare and realize their own initiatives and workshops in accordance to their interests in order to practice their newly achieved knowledge and skills. They will study Bulgarian, travel in the country to get to know it and feel and experience the Bulgarian culture. They also will meet and work for the local community, other volunteers, etc. In our work with the participants in our project we will use different forms of non-formal and informal education, as well as we will stimulate them to practise what they have learned. We will use presentations, discussions, meetings for planning and following-up, feed-backs. The result of our EVS project will be the achievement of its goals in full. When the participants depart from Bulgaria they will have found out themselves, have had knowledge, competences and skills to make their lives of full value, to have satisfying relationships, to achieve successful professional realization. These people will have the motivation, the attitudes and the power to continue to do good for the others and to work in favor of socially significant causes and in order to solve social problems. Our project’s impact will be to reinforce the role of voluntarism as a successful way for personal growth of young people and the importance of intercultural dialogue and exchange for the development of the national and the European community. The good example of the participants, the achieved knowledge and motivation by the indirect audiences, the positive impact on the development of our organization and the organizations of our partners, the good practices, all of this will be part of our organization’s efforts to make Europe better place to live and prosper.
