The training program "Exceptional therapies for exceptional children" is ann innovative therapeutic program. Evagelismos Special School aims to into this program through the training of personnel. The children with multiple and severe disabilities will be developed in a number of areas as individuals and as groups through the seminars of Art Therapy and Hippotherapy. Art Therapy and Hippotherapy acquire a dynamic nature related to the body and specifically with breathing and blood circulation and kinetics. Furthermore, Art Therapy and Hippotherapy are connected with the personal qualities of self-concept, self-expression, empathy, self-control, place and time management, as well as communication, socialization and acceptance. The program "Exceptional therapies for exceptional children" aims to bring trainees in touch with hand with methods and techniques related to art and hippotherapy, to experiment and practice using these methods, and relate these to individual cases of children at Evagelismos. Through the hands on experiences the trainees will learn to observe, assess, and meet the needs of the children with multiple disabilities that attend Evagelismos. Participants in the program will be 10 personnel members, regardless of specialization, that speak English fluently. Participants will take part in interactive activities that will concentrate on personal experiences and in self-expression, while combining the cognitive emotional part that will preserve knowledge longterm. Upon completion of the program, participants are expected to acquire the appropriate knowledge and experiences that would allow them to implement the porgram immediately. The programs of Art Therapy and Hippotherapy at Evagelismos will be implemented immediatly, aiming to disseminate the two therapies in other groups of children that attend special schools, thus increasing the number of children with multiple and severe disabilities that will benefit from these exceptional therapies.
