EVS im Elisabethheim Havetoft 2016
Start date: Jun 1, 2016, End date: Nov 30, 2017 PROJECT  FINISHED

The institution Elisabethheim Havetoft is devoted to the accompaniment, supporting and empowering of children and youth who need support in their growing up. They organize a daily group for children from the age of 6, residential communities, a school for “difficult” children that don’t fit into regular schools, an agriculture group and different therapy groups. They also take in unaccompanied underage refugees mostly from Afghanistan, Somalia and Iraq. The volunteers from Russia and Serbia have, in their demanding activities with the children and youth, a diverse field of activities where they grow in their social, communicative and creative competencies. They have the possibility to test their own skills and interest by taking care of the children and teenagers. They accompany the children and teenager in their daily life and prepare activities for the leisure times. In pedagogical EVS-seminars and during a additional media workshop on European topics in Berlin, offered by VIA e.V., the participants can reflect on their experiences and gain new knowledge which can be used to shape a strong and peaceful Europe. Especially in an institution where refugee, German teenagers and European volunteers meet and work together, the global connections, differences and commonalties can be strongly perceived.Learning by impressive experiences is a more sustainable way of learning and therefore we expect an exchange of experiences which gives constructively formed diversity a more accessible way for the children and youth in the project, as well as for the colleagues and the volunteers. Furthermore the two volunteers can give new impulses and be disseminators for an actively lived citizenry and hereby strengthen and change the European society and their sense of responsibility in a global context. They have the chance to spread the chances and ideas that a European voluntary service offers.
