EVS Beacon Training course was held in Malta between 12 to 15 November 2015 to serve as the first meeting point for 18 people coming from 6 partners who are involved in EVS project be either sending, hosting or coordinating volunteers within the scouting dimension. As a training course it had three main objectives:
1) Increase the understanding of EVS and all its different elements such as; Sending, hosting and volunteer's rights and obligations, different phases of EVS life cycle, the importance of Mentorship and Youthpass as a tool and a process.
2) Try to understand the concept of EVS within international scout youth work.
3) Create a proposal for an EVS Scout Network support structure that will aid the uptake of EVS by the national scout organisations within the European Scout Region.
The overarching objective of this training course was to increase the mobility of young people through EVS by providing more direct, updated and accessible information to the volunteers and to also increase the quality of projects by all the actors involved in EVS. The methodology used for this training course was based on Non formal Methods of education with the majority of the sessions including hands-on approach, discussions, workshops and simulations. The training of this small nucleus of personnel helped out by providing a stable foundation for the EVS Scout Network which will in turn help out more participants and officers in the time to come.
