EVS at 8thLife
Start date: Feb 1, 2016, End date: Apr 30, 2017 PROJECT  FINISHED

The EVS project "EVS at 8thLife" involves two volunteers from the UK and Slovakia and is the result of cooperation between the NGOs Change Agents UK, Mladiiinfo (Slovakia) and Asociacion Gaia Taisiri (Spain). The project activities will take place in the municipality of Garafía over the period of 12 months (01/03/2016-30/03/2017). The primary objective is to provide the volunteers with the opportunity to learn basic entrepreneur skills, inclusion and participation, as well as acquire knowledge of design, build and all aspects of the eco-technologies & living structures essential to an eco-village, whilst living and working in community, also thinking of how to contribute to an ethical and sustainable bioregional economy. This project was also designed to document all of their process so it can be shared with other practitioners worldwide through their design portfolios (which will also serve as proof of their capabilities in design, implementation and especially leadership and teamwork skills), and also through a YouTube channel where we will publish regular videos showing different aspects of their life and experiences here, which will help to inspire and inform others to make positive changes in their lives and communities. The planned activities include helping the organisation with the daily tasks of living in a farm and also administrative tasks (like accounting, team coordination, budgeting, mentoring and support of others, etc.), which will help them develop the necessary skills for launching any business, and also working to develop the infrastructure of the ecovillage project through their design projects, and contribute their skills and produce grown in the farm to various exchange networks to enrich the local economy, apart from collaborating with and supporting other local projects, NGOs and charities so they can have a wider range of experiences and enrich the local collaboration networks.Planned Methods: project design, management and implementation; audiovisual classes on the different aspects of Permaculture Design (People Care, Design Techniques, Earth Care, Energy & Technology and EcoEconomics); workshops on all the skills necessary to live in a farm; continuous documentation of the process, study and practice; facilitating shared information and collaboration between organizations; regular evaluation meetings to share feedback and course-correct; regular support meetings with residents of the ecovillage and external supporters and facilitators. The project envisages gaining new skills and knowledges by the volunteers which will help increase their chances at the labour market and provide good opportunities for career growth - and thus contribute to the development of their own country upon their return. And experiences we gain with these volunteers will also serve to help us develop a programme for a Master's degree in Permaculture by refining the curriculum, support structures and teaching methods we have set in place.
