Evropskou školou k větší konkurenceschopnosti
Start date: Jul 1, 2014, End date: Jun 30, 2016 PROJECT  FINISHED

Creation of the project „European school to greater competitiveness“ is closely connected with its name. It is a result of pro-active approach of teachers to self-education in both foreign language and their subject field and of attempts to use new professional and language skills in teaching and motivating students to be actively engaged in classes, to participate in national and international competitions and create a European portfolio. The aim of the project was to increase the efficiency of the teaching process in foreign languages and sciences, including IT. We decided to promote the use of ICT technologies and CLIL methodology in order to increase this efficiency. We wanted to extend the offer of Spanish as a second foreign language and achieve a good level in the students´ knowledge of at least two foreign languages. The long-term objectives include a focus on talented students, we want to develop their professional and linguistic skills and engage them in knowledge, skill, language and sports competitions as well as internationally. We will enhance the prestige of teachers and our school by self-education and use of modern tools and new methodologies. The school will become more attractive to pupils, their parents and the staff and it will get the public support. The project included 13 mobilities of school employees. Under the approved grant, we managed to organize two extra mobilities. Of the total number of mobilities, we realized 4 job-shadowings and 11 teachers participated in language and methodology courses. Job-shadowing at high school in Belgium was realized by the deputy headmaster that teaches German and Czech language. She completed 23 hours of shadowing a teacher of German and 2 hours of Dutch. Job-shadowing at high school in Finland was held by a teacher of English. She completed 13 hours of shadowing English, 2 hours of shadowing German, she participated in workshops and activities connected with international students´meeting within the project Erasmus+ which was held in the same week. Job-shadowing at partner school in Germany was carried out by the deputy headmaster who focused on shadowing headmaster and teaching immigrants German as a foreign language. The teacher of Physics and IT shadowed a German colleague. Both then discussed new possibilities of cooperation, their participation in the international Physics Olympiad and work on a common project Erasmus + KA2 on the topic of robotics in case of project approval. The teacher of Maths and Physics participated in the course „Making Science More Attractive“ and she learnt methodology of increasing students´motivation, as well as she got contacts with teachers from other countries. Three teachers of English participated in linguistic and methodology courses of English language – two of them in Great Britain and one in Ireland, they learnt new methodology in teaching pronunciation, work with text, grammar, use of ICT and interesting activities to increase pupils´ motivation. Two teachers of German participated in linguistic and methodology courses of German language in Köln and Hamburg. In addition to the new methodology they improved the knowledge of life and customs and the methodology.how to teach it The teacher of Spanish improved her language skills and knowledge of life and institutions of a foreign country in the course in Spain. The teachers of chemistry, physics and headmaster attended a course of English, two of them in Malta and one in London. They improved their language skills and the confidence to express in a foreign language. The headmaster attended a course for headmasters in England and had opportunity to become familiar with the British education system, to attend English schools and to discuss school systems and school management in other countries. She learned about the process of pupils´ assessment, inspection activities, the method of management and cooperation with public. The benefit of mobilities was to improve language skills of non-language and language teachers. Teachers of natural sciences certainly better communicate in a foreign language, their study abroad reinforced their confidence in expressing. Implementation of English professional terms into teaching and educational videos in English makes a lesson more interesting. The new methodology in foreign languages increases students´ motivation, students are more active and the number of students become involved in linguistic, biological, mathematical and physical competitions, also in students´professional activities, teachers support students to promote the use of foreign resources in projects aimed at science. Interest in Spanish enabled to open Spanish as a second foreign language in both classes of the first grade and a club of Spanish. Teachers decided to develop their qualifications and continue learning a foreign language, they inspired their colleagues to test new methodologies and awakened interest to get involved in other projects.
