The project Pre-reading/language/representations is a research-action developed by the French Federation of the Blind and Partially Sighted to support the awakening of the conscience of the writing, the development of the language and the representations of the young blind and partially sighted children. Visual impairment limits the early perceptive experiments. A very little blind child does not see images, cannot follow the movements of the objects. Accessing children's literature is difficult for them. The “conversational bath” which surrounds them, the terms in which one addresses to them is based unceasingly on visual references. The professionals who intervene with young visual impaired children deplore a lack of tools to face this problem. They express their lack of time to develop the missing material, … In addition isolated initiatives are carried out, formidable “hand-made” tools which required much human investment, and which would deserve to be known and more widely used. Therefore the project “Innovating pedagogical approaches for the early development of visually impaired children involving their parents” aims at: - Spreading to the partners of the project the methodologies and tools developed in France within the framework of the research-action tested by the FAF - Adapting these methodologies and tools to the local contexts, and enriching them by the practices implemented by the European partners - Developing a pedagogy for the adults - parents of visual impaired children - in order to reinforce their capacity to accompany their children towards the acquisition of their autonomy.
