Evaluation of sustainability: European conferences and training courses "EASY-ECO 2008-2010" (EASY-ECO 2008-2010)
Start date: Oct 1, 2007, End date: May 31, 2011 PROJECT  FINISHED

[EASY-ECO 2008-2010] is a training and conference programme on evaluations in the specific context of sustainable development. Sustainability evaluations are important for Europe because they support decision-making processes by highlighting strengths and weaknesses of particular policies, programmes and projects, they make policies more transparent and accountable and they support organisational learning. By building on the vast experience of the coordinator of the preceding EASY-ECO projects (FP5 and FP 6), this proposal combines continuity and innovation in a well balanced way. [EASY-ECO 2008-2010] consists of two scientific conferences, six virtual training courses on theoretical issues and six hand-on training courses on-site. The virtual part will operate on an e-learning Internet platform for a period of three months, hosted and moderated by the coordinator. Experienced trainers currently involved in EASY-ECO 2005-2007 will develop the training material for the e-learning platform. The on-site case trainings provide hands-on experience with actual evaluation projects. Experienced evaluators will guide the participants through the different steps of an evaluation. The two conferences support the training courses by giving young researchers the chance to present their own research to a broad scientific audience, and by bringing them in touch with a broad range of leading experts. The conferences provide the opportunity to select cutting-edge case studies for the training courses that match with recent societal and political trends. Over the last years, EASY-ECO has become a close-knit network of academics and practitioners within Europe and an academic focal point of sustainability evaluations worldwide. By developing the format of the series of events further, by involving additional countries and by integrating another 240 young researchers into the training and existing network, [EASY-ECO 2008-2010] will continue to build significant capacities for SD.
