EUTW National Forums on Policy, Culture and Science of the EU
Start date: Sep 1, 2015, End date: Aug 31, 2017 PROJECT  FINISHED

According to the past six year’s experience with outreach activities, we found three main categories which might interest the majority of the Taiwanese population. They are the political and economic development of the EU institution; EU culture, tourism and societal issues and the Horizon 2020 where environment and ICT issues are more popular. Hence, we decided to expand our regular forum into a series of forums which will focus on the following three main pillars. The First Pillar is on Political and Economic Aspects: the EUTW forum will be held bi-monthly with the National Central Library. The National Central Library is designed to gather experts on current and critical EU issues. This forum will allow young scholars, experts, civil servants and the general public to actively participate in ongoing EU matters. The Second Pillar is on Cultural and Societal Aspects: The Taiwan European Culture Forum will be held twice a year. European culture does not enjoy a large amount of exposure in Taiwan; therefore, this forum aims to target the European languages and culture group in Taiwan which is also the largest group of European studies in Taiwan. From language policy to European capitals of culture, from European art to urban development, this forum aims to cross-fertilise the European studies with EU studies in Taiwan. The Third Pillar is on Science and Environmental Aspects: The Horizon 2020, the largest EU Research and Innovation programme, has caught the eyes of research and industrial groups. Ever since the Framework Programme (FP), Taiwanese scientists have been encouraged to participate in the programme. We decide to organise a Taiwan-Europe forum on the environment and science with the EU Horizon 2020 National Contact Point, Taiwan Office which is sponsored by Ministry of Science and Technology (MoST) to target the research, industrial and business groups in Taiwan.
