Eurosigns 2 – European Sign Languages for Professionals

The project is addressing the problematic of deaf people and their lower access to employment possibilities due to lack of communication. The partners have identified that these obstacles derive from the low level or even absence of other sign languages opportunities. The partnership, 6 partners in 5 countries, are already working on a first project in which a common language and learning materials and methods were developed and its success has brought new countries to apply to the system. This project is then an enlargement of the existing one in which more countries adhere to the new international communication language to update their own national systems. The final products will be three new learning ODL modules containing the professional terminology for each one of the new country partner language of the following branches: Agriculture, Engineering, Social Services, Driving Schools, Telecommunications, Administration, Health Service, Culture and theatre and Self-employment. The first module will be focused in getting acquainted with a foreign sign language covering specificities of each national culture; the second module will focus on the usage of the specific signs for the mentioned sectors and the third one will be covering the information related with the professions of these sectors in each one of the countries and other information related with employment possibilities. In the end of the project a DEMO version will be available in the website. The main users of these products are the deaf people themselves but they can also be used by interpreters and by teachers using the sign language.
