EUROPLAT European Network for Psychology Learning & Teaching
Start date: Oct 1, 2009,

The psychological sciences have relevance to all EU citizens. They provide an understanding of human behaviour in society, the workplace, educational settings and the home. There is a need to enhance the quality of education within the psychological sciences in order to increase the impact of these psychological sciences to meet the Lisbon goals and the education of lifelong learners that are instrumental in shaping the EU knowledge based economy. The EUROPLAT network will provide a unique forum to improve the quality of education within the psychological sciences across the EU, promote knowledge exchange and innovation, and build capacity for research and scholarship around psychology education in Europe. Through these network activities EUROPLAT will take into consideration the Erasmus priorities for higher education including curriculum development, quality assurance, modernisation and cooperation with business and industry. EUROPLAT will consist of 32 partners with associate partners including the European Federation of Psychology Associations and the European Psychology Students Association which has over 310,000 student members across Europe. Furthermore, in recognising the European Commission’s own findings, and those of the OECD (2008) suggesting that the standards of European education are falling behind that from other parts of the world, we have invited organisations from the USA and Australia to join EUROPLAT as associate partners. The main activities of the project will be a series of conferences and network meetings, the creation of a web portal on psychology education with national entry points, three research reports and the creation of a coordinated dissemination network of psychology educators.Teaching in the psychological sciences is also embedded in, for example, the training of teachers, business managers, health professionals, lawyers and engineers. The project will therefore benefit other discipline areas with the potential for improved psychology education related to healthcare provision, business management and education of children. These longer term goals could be far reaching and have a considerable impact across Europe.
