Europen Ideas and Identities
Start date: Sep 1, 2015, End date: Aug 31, 2018 PROJECT  FINISHED

Context/background This application is the result of two preparatory meeting held at Albertus-Magnus Gymnasium, Bensberg, Nordrhein-Westfalen, Germany, 23 and 24 January -14, and at Lycee Jeanne d'Arc, Normandie, France, 10-11 December -14. Representatives from the Lycée Jeanne d’Arc, Bayeux, Basse Normandie, France, and Eikeli videregående skole, Hosle, Akershus, Norway, were present at both meetings. Together with BRG and BORG 15, Vienna, Austria, we wish to formalize a three-year Erasmus+ partnership under the title “European Ideas and Identities”. We will use the acronym MY EU Idea, and project start-up date is 1 September 2015. Objectives We want to establish a strong and binding European school partnership, and to encourage professional and personal relationships at all levels in our school communities. Our main aim, though, is to foster personal development for our students through identity building. With a strong focus on the negative aspects og nationalism, we also want to contribute to further development and strengthening of the European Union. Number and profile of participants All four schools are upper secondary school of general education. Each school will have a team of 3-4 teachers involved to run the project locally, and each team will have its own coordinator. Eikeli videregående skole will be overall coordinator. About 20 students, aged 15-16, from each school will be directly involved. 8 students from each school will meet at three transnational meetings. Activities/methodology Our students will work with personal, local, national and European aspects of their own identity, and throughout the project they will actively reflect on their future as Europeans. We will run a different sub-project each year. The first year , we will focus on local and European history. The second year we wish our students to work with their present day local and European identities. The third year our students will explore their future as citizens of Europe. Key words are the labour market, educational possibilities, and a possible common identity. Students that take part in the project will create their own personal portfolio containing their “profile”, which will be important when students get to know each other. Depending on the actual need, eTwinning, e-mails, Skype and Facebook will be used as tools of communication. Result and impact envisaged A strong sense of identity will make social exclusion more unlikely and the future labour market of our students more accessible. Potential longer term benefits Valuable lasting professional and personal contact, between head masters, teachers and students.
