European Youth Worker Seminar
Start date: Jun 1, 2016, End date: Dec 31, 2016 PROJECT  FINISHED

Last year we had the Jejuso youth exchange with about 50 young people from Sweden,Great Britain, France and Germany. After that we had the idea to organize a follow up project in Berlin. In this project the target group is European youth workers and topics are Europe, refugees, migrants, discrimination, etc. We are interested in supporting and building the skills of our emerging youthworkers and leaders so they can increase and sustain the active civic participation and voices of thosewho come to their programs and community centers. The voices, opinions and ambitions of neighbors(children, youth, their parents and families) are crucial to sustaining a healthy neighborhood and a justcivil society. Youth workers in different organizations have a unique opportunity to build theircommunities’ knowledge, skill, power, and collective action. Many of our staff have created fantasticmethods and strategies to do this already; all of them are hungry for more knowledge and skill, andrelationships to sustain them in this important work for years to come. Many of these workers will alsobenefit from a deeper understanding of the political and cultural contexts of their work, so that they canalso pass this on to those in their programs and understand how their work contributes to much biggersocial justice efforts around Europe. This professional exchange will build skills, share best practices, and establish professional relationships for ongoing support and updates when everyone has returnedhome to dive deeper into their work.
