European Voluntary at Worldhouse in Amsterdam
Start date: Nov 1, 2013,
The worldhouse is a center for information, counseling, education and culture for undocumented migrants. the worldhouse is one of the projects developed by the Protestantde Diaconie Amsterdam. In the worldhouse migrants do not have to depend on others for a while. Central to our work is the participation and empowerment of migrants. In the worldhouse migrants get the space to organize or to participate in different social/cultural-activities; like music, art, cooking, discussion groups or spiritual groups. It is also possible to follow language courses and computer classes. We stimulate young people to share their talents and ideas. Most of the activities in the worldhouse are organized by young undocumented migrants themselves. At present we have 450 weekly visitors. Besides our activities, the worldhouse offers ‘basic rights’ trainings and counseling for undocumented migrants. We also give space for undocumented migrants to organize themselves and speak up for their rights. Twice a year the worldhouse organizes a seminar or debate on migration issues to influence the public debate. The EVS volunteer can help out and learn from the existing worldhouse activities, or develop a new activity according to her/his own talents and interest - with support of the worldhouse staff members. This application is for 1 EVS volunteer coming from Spain, for a period of 1 year. This application is for 1 volunteer that will start after Martina Montevecchi has finished her internship. Martina finishes her internship on 01-11-2013; Cristina will start on 05-11-2013.That means that the number of EVS volunteers that will be at the worldhouse at the same time never exceeds 2.
