European Union in Crisis: What is Wrong and How to Fix It
Start date: Sep 1, 2016, End date: Aug 31, 2019 PROJECT  FINISHED

The rationale behind the EUCRIS project is fourfold. The first is to deepen the knowledge on the functioning of the European Union and main features of migrant, institutional, democratic and economic crises that EU is currently facing. The second is to develop solutions to above crises in the framework of research and debates/conferences with decision-makers and experts. The third is to equip students, especially of social sciences, with key competences that are desirable in the labor market (i.e. analytical, organizational, computational). The fourth is to provide teaching on EU matters for students from other departments, in particular from STEM.To cope with above objectives, the project includes: 1) four teaching courses with pragmatic curricula: European Integration (lectures and seminars), Institutions of the European Union (lectures and labs), Intergovernmental Conference as a Model of Multilateral and Multi-Level Diplomacy in the EU (lectures) and EU Common Foreign and Security Policy (lectures), 2) organization of three conferences and five public debates with practitioners and decision-makers, 3) four books and several journal articles, 4) two empirical researches, 5) study visits, 6) construction of two datasets (MEPDAT and EUDAT), 7) creation of website and virtual campus, 8) Jean Monnet Inaugural Lectures. The project will have a significant impact as it is addressed to: students of social and natural sciences, including those who have not yet had contact with EU affairs, students with disabilities, EU policy-makers, practitioners, EU researchers, general public, NGOs as well as university staff. Due to the use of interactive and practical teaching methods (i.e. case-studies, quantitative analysis, group projects, problem-solving, computer-based exercises), students will acquire skills that are sought by employers. They will also get familiar with EU and its policies which is a prerequisite for professional career in international institutions.
