European Union: global foresight into accessible and quality food
Start date: Sep 1, 2015, End date: Aug 31, 2018 PROJECT  FINISHED

Today, the activity of the European Union provides an example of effective agrarian policy instrumental in solving the problems of food security, recognised as a major issue globally. If for developing countries the problem of food security has to deal with poverty and hunger, then for developed countries, including the EU, it has to deal with improvement of the quality of food products and their accessibility. In recent decades, due to increasing population in the world and the introduction onto the food market more and more synthetic ingredients, one of the topical issues in the EU is the quality and harmless food. The latter determines the state of health of individuals and population as a whole.A serious challenge for the current development of agriculture are consequences of climate change (loss of biodiversity, deterioration of soil and water), increase in the amount of food waste. Therefore the main objectives of EU agricultural policy are: to promote the sustainable manufacture of quality and safe food products; to tackle environmental problems; to encourage sustainable development of rural areas. Under these conditions, the priorities of the EU agricultural and food policy is not only to overcome the problems of domestic food supplies, but also to put forth every possible effort in addressing the problems of global food security
