Start date: Jun 30, 2003, End date: Jan 30, 2006 PROJECT  FINISHED

W.IN.NET aims to create a network of local, regional and national Women Resource Centres in order to support them in promoting the role of women in local and regional development. The network wishes to improve the efficiency and transparency of these organisations and consequently the policies and tools for equal opportunities between women and men. Five thematic sub-networks will be set up within W.IN.NET: 1. WRCs - Quality indicators and modelling; 2. Women entrepreneurs; 3. Territorial system on gender equality and local development; 4. Women facing difficulties and social exclusion; 5. Women and technology. Achievements: W.IN.NET aims at creating a European Network of Womens Resource Centres (WRC) in order to support WRC: s in promoting the role of women in local and regional development. The network aims at improving the efficiency and transparency of WRC: s and thereby the policies and tools for equal opportunities between women and men. 17 partners from 9 Member States take part in the operation. Then main work and activities have been carried out by 5 thematic sub-networks focusing on modelling and quality indicators, women entrepreneurs, territorial system on gender equality and local development, women facing difficulties and social exclusion and women and technology. They all aim at improving the management and marketing of the WRC: s and at elaborating models and quality indicators for a sustainable European Network in form of an association of WRC: s. The networking also provides the partnership with a regular exchange of information, knowledge and good practices within the different thematic fields. One thematic conference has been held in Zographou, Athens on the topics 'Territorial system on gender equality and local development' and 'Women facing difficulties and social exclusion'. The aim of the conference was to present the achieved results within these fields. The networking activities were finalised by a comprehensive report on 'Womens Resource Centres – modelling, benchmarking and networking', which can be downloaded at www.women.eu.com. The W.IN.NET final conference 'Gender Equality in Europe towards 2007-2013 – Womens Resource Centres and Networking as Gender Mainstreaming Tools' was held in Brussels 21-22 November at the premises of the Committee of the Regions. The aim of the conference was to present and disseminate the results of the operation and to also focus on the future European gender policies and related mainstreaming tools within the European Institutions and civil society. At the first conference day four workshops were held on the topics: 'Women entrepreneurs from European countries', 'Women facing difficulties and local development policies in the EU 25 and beyond', 'Overcoming the digital divide – WRC: s and ICT' and 'Womens Networking in Europe and the world'. At the second day the main open public event was held for the exchange of experiences in the field of 'Gender Mainstreaming and Networking – Womens Resource Centres in Europe towards 2007-2013'. In total more than 300 participants attended the final conference. At the final conference a declaration of intentions for a future W.IN.NET Association of WRC: s in EU 25 was presented. This association, W.IN.NET EU 25, will be open to WRC:s in the Member States. Until now there has not been a stable European association for the WRC, but through joint efforts by the partnership this is now reality, which also means that one of the main objectives of the operation has been achieved. Information on W.IN.NET EU 25 is to be found at www.women.eu.com.
