EUROPEAN NETWORK OF FOLK ORCHESTRAS
Start date: May 1, 2010,

The main objective of ENFO (to create a stable network of contemporary folk orchestras) is closely related to the following specific objectives- To create contemporary folk orchestras linked to pre-existing music schools that already teach contemporary folk music. This objective goes quantitatively far beyond the current existence of folk bands, as an orchestra is an instrumental ensemble, usually fairly large with string, brass, woodwind sections, and possibly a percussion section as well. This objective seeks to transfer some "best practices" in the performance of modern folk music that have been already developed by some of the project's co-organizers (Spain and Italy).- To establish the network as an infrastructure that will assist the various parties to collaborate and benefit from each other's knowledge and initiatives regarding the diffusion of specialized knowledge and general promotion of European contemporary folk music. As mentioned before, some of the already existing orchestras that aren't linked to educational institutions will have the opportunity of having access to educational resources through the exchange of knowledge with other partners.- To promote the trans-national mobility of musicians and folk orchestras and, therefore, the transfer and sharing of knowledge and music traditions.- To organise musical events and meetings that will promote musical diversity across Europe.
