European-Mediterranean Postgraduate Program on Organ Donation and Transplantation
Start date: Dec 1, 2013,

Our main objective is to improve the postgraduate training of healthcare professionals in organ donation and transplantation in Morocco, Egypt and Lebanon, setting the base for a Euro-Mediterranean Training Model of Specialists in Organ Donation and Transplantation. The EMPODaT is conceived as a blended training program, in accordance with the European Space for Higher Education guidelines. It will provide a common framework, where Universities from 4 different European countries and 3 ENPI countries will collaborate actively to develop a successful lifelong learning strategy. It will consist in a 750 hours postgraduate program that will lead to 30 ECTS. The project targets healthcare professionals, mainly from Medicine and Nursing degrees, but, as specialists’ professional profiles vary greatly from country to country in this area, all health related professionals could benefit from it. The program will offer a common Curriculum to provide homogeneous knowledge in organ donation and transplantation and enhance professional competences development. EMPODaT will consist of e-learning training, local seminars, practical hospital traineeships and International assessment seminars. A “learn to teach” module will be implemented for 12 ENPI teachers. 90 ENPI students will benefit from this first postgraduate course. A Euro-Mediterranean training network in Organ Donation and Transplantation will be constituted, with the participation of partner Universities, other allied institutions as well as regional, national and international bodies in Organ Donation and Transplantation to ensure the transferability of EMPODaT. This may result in the development of safe and quality transplant systems in the Mediterranean area as the training of healthcare professionals is proved to have a positive impact upon organ donation (ETPOD (European Training Program on Organ Donation): a successful training program to improve organ donation.
