European Education: a means to strenghten internationalisation at school
Start date: Aug 18, 2014, End date: Jul 30, 2016 PROJECT  FINISHED

Context/Background: We are an Elosschool. In our school the management/staff works together with an Elos workgroup. Each level( BB/KB, TL,HAVO,VWO )in the school provides a delegate for the Elos team so that during meetings they can inform/motivate/persuade the teachers of their own team, which counts for the management team as well. The composition of the Elos workgroup has changed over the past years as some highly experienced teachers have retired. Most members of the current Elos group are very young and inexperienced so they need to develop various skills in order to consolidate and upgrade/improve the internationalisation level in our school. Objectives: In order to implement Elos strongly in our schoolcurriculum there needs to be a professional team which is : able to lead a project team able to organise, manage, monitor and evaluate projects, able to bring about changes in attitude/behaviour within the teams, able to communicate effectively with partnerschools, parents and colleagues. well informed about European cultures and social behaviour. fluent in English media wise. Number and profile of participants: There is a total of 22 participants who are going to participate over the next 2 years. The participants belong to the management of the school and to the Elos workgroup. The management team members are taking courses concerning leadership, strategic mamagement and of course (by going abroad) will learn more about educational systems in Europe. Some need to get a boast to put it more effectively into the organisation. The Elos workgroup members need to enhance certain skills to be more persuasive within the teams. Two participants are teacher trainers and need to strengthen their coaching- and guidance skills in an international setting. Description of the activities: Participants/ school will subscribe/apply for the selected courses. After that they will attend selected courses. Methodology: First we discussed the possibility to apply for subsidy with the Management team. It was quite clear from the beginning that we all wanted to become more international developed professionals. For the next two years we have decided to focus on extra international training for the Management team and the Elos workgroup. Our wish is to get more people involved in Elos , but therefore we need a more skilled team. They have to motivate people and aim at getting Elos more embedded in the school/curriculum. In order to get more professionals we decided to look for courses which can enhance the needed skills. Results/Impact/Long term benefits: We think we will benefit a lot of having more international skilled professionals because if they have had training they will be able to fullfil their tasks in a better way. Elos will become a more school based phenomenon instead of an issue which only belongs to a select group of teachers. Project coordinators know more about communication techniques and can speak English more fluently, which will give less misunderstanding and give them more persuasive power.
