European Cooperation for Improved Application of A..
European Cooperation for Improved Application of Academic Teaching in Commercial Uses of Medical Biotechnology
Start date: Oct 1, 2011,
Structured partnership with the business community must become an integral part of European Education. Biotechnology in general and Medical Biotechnology in particular are in an excellent position to increase the competitiveness of the EU in the global market. Currently, productivity and economic power of the European biotechnology industry is lagging behind the USA, China or India. Furthermore, translational research and entrepreneurial skills during the academic training are still not getting enough emphasis that would make European biotechnology graduates desirable employees in biotech and pharmacy industries. The aim of the current proposal is to develop strong links amongst academic institutions with biotechnology training facilities and industrial partners who can aid development of training programs where entrepreneurial thinking, management skills and scientific expertise are tightly incorporated in the knowledge base of the graduates. In the present proposal an academic institution (University of Pecs, HU), one SME (GenoSyst, FIN) and a pharmaceutical company (Chinoin Private Co. Ltd, Member of the Sanofi-Aventis group) and the European Biotechnology Network will participate to report the current trends and to recommend an action plan for European officials.
