European Community Studies Association - Canada, 11th Biennial Conference
Start date: Sep 1, 2015, End date: Aug 31, 2016 PROJECT  FINISHED

The present proposal seeks support for the organization of the 11th Biennial Conference of the European Community Studies Association Canada (ECSA-C) in Halifax, Nova Scotia, in May 2016.The ECSA-C Conference is the largest and most important academic event devoted entirely to the EU in Canada. It attracts the foremost Canadian and some of the world’s best researchers in EU studies. Panel and workshop discussions will allow for critical and live interaction relating to ongoing research and debates on European integration. Attracting economists, sociologists, historians, geographers, lawyers and political scientists, as well as the general public, the proposed conference aims to facilitate an open, interdisciplinary and comparative approach to EU studies. This approach promotes the diffusion of knowledge across disciplines in Canadian universities, especially among graduate students and young scholars, and in the general public interested in European affairs. The ECSA-C will be held for the first time in Atlantic Canada providing an opportunity to discuss the relationship between the European Union and North America, as Halifax is the port of entry for Canada for most goods from Europe and European Union. The title of the conference is: The European Union and North America: an inevitable partnership?
