Start date: Jun 1, 2015, End date: May 31, 2017 PROJECT  FINISHED

Xántus János Bilingual Secondary School applies for the Erasmus+ programme with 16 teachers. Our school educates future experts on tourism within secondary school classes but we also have general bilingual secondary school classes. Each of our teachers have university qualification, three of them have doctorate degree. Two colleagues are Physics and Physical Education teachers, the other 14 persons are language teachers or teach subjects in certain languages. Their scale of pedagogical experience is diverse, apart from the young new workforce, most of them have at least 10-20 years of teaching past. 8 applying colleagues are English teachers, they teach either the language, or due to the bilingual feature of the school, some other subjects in the special language of English. There are 1 person teaching French, 1 Italian, 1 Spanish and 2 German. Two further teachers teach Physics and Physical Education but thanks to their high level of English language knowledge they would like to take part in training abroad. 1 colleague would like to take part in a course in Russian language in Latvia. The courses were selected with the help of recommendations and reading about the possibilities and entirely suit the profile and expectations of the school. We primarily expect from the project to rejuvenate the language skills of the participants, but we would also like to learn new pedagogical methods, techniques. We are searching for answers to the merging problems of education, for instance how to avoid and eliminate learning failures or how we can develop students with learning difficulties. We consider it a huge advantage of the programme that due to the international scales colleagues may win a wider view on education and can compare their own work in European horizon. From our point of view the most important short-term goal of the programme is that our teachers are going to continue their work more lively as they return home with great experiences. They probably feel like taking part in further teacher training courses either by own financing or searching for future applications. We hope they will take part in further possibilities and motivate students as well to join the student mobilities. On the long run this programme will strengthen the standard of our school which will result better academic grades, more confident language skills and even better university admission indexes. We are convinced that the beneficial effects of the 2 week-long courses of the colleagues will be perceived even by students, as the obtained methods will be applied during lessons. In case of a full support, 22% of the teacher staff takes part in the scholarship, taking the student groups into consideration, at least 50% of our students would benefit from the pedagogical results of the teachers’ courses. The dissemination of the project will be carried out firstly for the teaching staff, for parents and students but upon request we are ready to share the experience with further pedagogical institutions, partner schools. The whole period of the project is 2 years; we would complete the trips during the summer of 2015 to maintain enough time for evaluation, dissemination and supplementary tasks. For the realisation of the project the main responsibility is of the project co-ordinator but he is assisted by the whole project team.
