Project background Walter-Eucken-Schule Karlsruhe is a federal vocational school centre specialised in business, commerce and economy. Approximately 1,600 students are enrolled who are trained by 85 teachers. The range of teaching our school provides comprises - Vocational school in the business sector, one partner of the dual system in Germany for apprentices - School of further education in the field of business and economy aiming at the advanced technical college entrance qualification - College of Business Administration and Management The focus of all three is on business, information technology and foreign languages. We pursue a strategy of internationalization as response to expanding and thus joining markets. With international partnerships (France, Spain, Great Britain, Russia, Poland and Serbia) in all courses of training and further education we aim at vocational qualification in a joint Europe. Project objectives Our primary goal is to improve both the cross-cultural competence and the competence in speaking foreign languages significantly. Moreover we aim at supporting the self-development of our students and at promoting the advanced subject-specific training. We would like to raise the prospects of our course participants on the domestic and particularly on the European job market by that project. Last but not least, we wish to revitalize the European idea by international meetings! Description of the activities, carrying out, long term benefit Activity 1: Students of our Vocational school in the business sector (25 participants per year) This activity is part of our additional qualification who have graduated from a grammar school and it takes place at the end of the first year of their training. The activity includes a 60-hour C# course with a Microsoft certificate; furthermore, there are two-day visits to several IT companies in the Elblag area. The language spoken on this project is English. The main aim of the project is to enable the students to participate successfully in the European job market. Former participants have told us that this activity has helped them a lot with their careers, in finding an interesting job. It has helped them in their personal lives, they have become more self-confident and are not afraid of working abroad. Activity 2: Students of our School of further education in the field of business and economy (20 participants per year) Cross-border activities with Alsace German-French partnership with Lycée Jean Mermoz, Saint-Louis, on the basis of the pilot project "Azubi-BacPro" Content and objectives of "Azubi-BacPro" “Azubi-BacPro" is one pilot project of the German-French 'Academy of Vocational Education'. This project has been established since the beginning of the school year 2014/2015 by the Academy Strasbourg and the Ministry of Education in Stuttgart (Baden-Württemberg). Four model schools have been developing a transnational course of study aiming at cross-border mobility between the French region Alsace and the German federal state Baden-Württemberg. It is a so-called co-qualification which covers a further qualification of the respective neighbouring country in addition to the training in the home country. Having successfully finished the vocational course with the co-qualification in the respective country the graduate receives a certificate. The pilot project comprises four fields: - common vocational lessons, - cross-cultural competence, - occupational foreign language skills and - internships in the neighbouring country for some weeks. Activity 3: Students of our College of Business Administration and Management – language/cultural preparation for an internship of three months (20 students per year) The course participants are being prepared as far as language and culture is concerned in Spain/France for a three months’ placement in the respective country. That three months’ internship is realized one year later. Our foreign partners organize plant visits along with the Spanish/French students. Additionally our course participants are taught bilingually together with Spanish/French students. In the course of that stay there are many periods in which the students organize lessons mutually. Activity 4: Students of our College of Business Administration and Management – Three months‘ Internship in Spain/France (6 participants per year) The students complete a three months’ internship abroad in Spanish/French enterprises. In their Spanish/French lessons at home they prepare their documents for their application and apply for the placements. If required our partner colleges in Pamplona and Poitiers, respectively, assist with finding internships.
