Euro-Books Contest
Start date: Sep 1, 2014, End date: Aug 31, 2015 PROJECT  FINISHED

EU-BOOK focuses on four main activities: - the “EU-BOOK Contest” for four high schools classes from Trentino Province. The matches are based on a question and answer format and structured as follows: the first part will address general knowledge on the EU and its institutions, while in the second part students will answer questions concerning a book related to different aspects of the EU. The contest phase will be preceded by some formative sessions by University professors and students (the “coaches” – see further); - Training course for high school teachers held by professors of the University of Trento, that will present the newest and most innovative tools through which the EU can be taught to pupils (simulations, role plays, social media…);- Training course for university students, who will act as “coaches” for the classes joining the contest;- Final international conference on “The future of the EU”, which will be part of the dissemination of results phase. EU-BOOK builds on the positive and successful experience of the 2012 Jean Monnet “New Citizens of the EU” and the 2013 Jean Monnet “European Schools Debating”. The project is part of the objective – carried out in the last two years by the University and the Jean Monnet Centre - to boost knowledge on the EU in Trentino high schools while making it more attractive through innovative methodologies: from the development of works/projects on EU integration by high schools students in 2012/13, through a debate tournament on EU issues in 2013/14, to the proposal of a contest on EU-books for 2014/15. The matches - broadcasted on a local TV - will spark an interest about the EU in the civil society at large. The number of schools and university students expressing interest in the activities, together with the number of people following the TV shows, will be clear indicators of achievement.
